I’m Wayne McKnight — senior systems and infrastructure engineer, U.S. Navy veteran, and IT professional based in Columbus, Texas.

I’ve spent 30+ years working in IT across K–12 education, county government, healthcare, and law enforcement. I currently architect and operate the core infrastructure for Brenham ISD, and previously served as IT Department Head for Colorado County, Texas — where I built and managed the technology infrastructure for the county government, the 911 Data Center, and the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office.

I’m hands-on across the stack: Proxmox/Ceph virtualization, Cisco Meraki, Active Directory, Google Workspace, Cisco Unified Communications, Python automation, and more. I’ve led a VMware-to-Proxmox migration, recovered a production cluster from a critical ZFS outage, and delivered a multi-million-dollar financial system migration on schedule.

Before IT, I served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) as a Navy Personnel Administrator, earning the Navy Achievement Medal for building automation tooling that replaced manual record-keeping processes shipboard.

This site is where I write about technology, infrastructure, and whatever else is on my mind.
